SPEEDY asked: I have chevy 350 engine i have decided to rebuild myself(my first one). i have gotten all my parts in and now its time to go back together. But i need to clean it to get all the old oil and contaminates out. Someone told me to get a machine shop to boil it but i have called around and the closest machine shop in my area is 70 miles away. Thats a little too far than i wanted to go with gas prices now days. Is there a simpler, at home, way i can clean this engine block. I have a steam/pressure washer. would that be suitable or not? Could i just soak it down with mineral spirits a few times? PLEASE HELP!!
Roughly how much will a machine shop charge me to boil the block?

big-cat 68 asked: 1968 430 cu. motor was just returned from machine shop after 3 months(too-long). r/r guy said to get break in oil. forgot to ask what kind? he also said to use synthetic oil after i break motor in after 500 miles. i heard synthetic oil was to thin for older engines?

Raymon G asked: I have a T25 garrett from a nissan 300zx, the turbo year is a 1990. I want to rebuild it but idk where I can get it balance or if i really need to get it balance or if i can do it my self lol. hotrodjeff66 asked: I am rebuilding a Wisconsin VH4D and I can’t figure out how the oil pump works. Behind the idler gear ther is a place for a pipe plug. I can’t remember if there was a plug in it or not. How does the oil get from the oil pump to the oil nozels? The motor has been apart for about 3 months waiting on the machine shop to do the machining and I don’t remember some of the odds & ends. Answers will be greatly appreciated

Susan asked: I have a 1978 Dodge motorhome that needs either a new engine or get the old one repaired. I’m so confused! I called my mechanic and he told me that I would have to find a “machine shop,” I have found some in my city but I’m not so sure they do engine rebuilds.

kcscottboughtacoke asked: I have a sbc 350 4 bolt main, It still ran strong but only had about 20-25 pounds oil pressure when i pulled it from my ta. Now im ready to rebuild it. And i want to make it pretty bad ass, i have two options the first would be going with just a regular 350 bored with a cam and good heads, dome pistons etc, the second option would be to make a 383 stroker. These are my questions
If i went with the 350 is the main machine work I would want to do other than getting it bored?
If i went with the stroker what are the necessary things to do to make it a stroker?? Thanks alot,

I,ve googled but the machinary very expensive such CNC/ peterson etc. Since theres not many competition in my area, what i,m planning is the very basic, “old school” engine rebuilding you may call it.I do have some basic knowledge and planning to take basic machinary course ( boring/honing) etc.
kind of work i,m planning to do are;
1. cylinder boring
2. cylinder honing
3. valve job
4. maybe some lathe machine job
please, tell me what machine and tools for the kind of work above

Shawn G asked: I have a 1998 ASV HD4520, skid steer loader. The bucket works on a manual, not electric, joystick controller. I had the lift cylinders rebuilt about two weeks ago. The machine has been working fine. Yesterday one of my workers was trying to get a piece of a stump out of the ground and the bucket popped off of the root and shook the hell out of the machine. Ever since that happened, the tilt on the bucket will not work. All of the hydraulics work off of the same motor. (tracks, lift, tilt, and aux.) Everything else is working fine. The tilt will only dangle when there is no pressure applied. There aren’t any leaks. I removed on line, there is pressure. no matter which direction I try to tilt it, it tilts downward. when I let off, it dangles. Can anyone tell me what is happening? I am lost. Thanks in advance.
